Yesterday was a fun day (except for the darn weather!). We signed up for the metropolitain challenge and discovered a pretty scenic route. http://www.veloquebec.info/feria/index_e.php?page=defi
It was a good opportunity to do my first 100 km - with backup (i.e. if I couldn't make it there were sweep vehicles nearby to take me back to the start)... We also signed up for the next one in Berthierville on June 27th... More details here: http://www.velo.qc.ca/fr/index.php?page=defi
One pain was the car traffic getting in and out of the area. Once we were on our bikes it was good.
Did anyone else do it? Any thoughts/tips before the next one? How is your training going? What are your favorite routes... Thanks! Diane
DDK, it was nice seeing both of you at the ride. But I live about 5kms from there, and it took me 45mins to get home. I should have rode there, it would have been a lot faster.
Here is another one for you in September. Eastern Townships Challenge http://www.destinationknowlton.com/2006/09/eastern-townships-challenge-visits.html or http://www.velo.qc.ca/english/index.php?page=challenge The second site has all the summer challenges. See you at The Tour de l'Île next week. 50K - just a walk in the park for you now.
the wind was nuts... I summarized the day on my blog here... I usually can go downhill at about 32 km an hour - here I was going downhill into the wind at 18... it was seriously nuts at the end - with the added rain whipping in our face...
WIND!!! At times it slowed me down to 14K/hr and that was hands down, grind it out, peddle hard (this did not help my headache after I guess). And your thinking "Well just turn the corner and the wind will be behind me" NO! The wind follows you!!! But (almost) every person had a smile and a laugh doing it.
