Weather

OMG: You Guys, I just did my hourly check of the weather and the winds have changed South at 20k an hour for Saturday.  We're still gonna get wet but that southerly wind will really give us a push. WWAAHHOOOOUUU

Sorry to rain on your parade (pun intended).
South won't do anything for us, it will be coming at us from the right.

However, on Sunday it will be from the West, and that is what we want - the wind at out back!

ha ha! too funny Sharon! I'm doing hourly checks too!
Yeah south isn't any fun - neither is north or East is the worse...
We definitely want west! Lots and lots of West!

getting colder on Sunday - now at a high of 16 for Quebec! UGH! But the heat is back on for Saturday!
Here's where I've been checking:

Montreal (Saturday)

Trois-Rivieres (Saturday and Sunday)
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caqc0759

Quebec (Sunday)

Funny thing is I rarely believe weather forecasts because they're so often wrong. Plus they've changed so much this week - what's the point!??!
I guess checking is keeping my mind busy...
Anyone nervous? anxious? excited? terrified? weepy? all of the above??

16 is perfect riding weather!

As far as the rain goes, I see an intense but compact fast-moving area of rain in northwestern Ontario. It looks like it will probably get us but as long as it stays small it will just give us a pleasant cooling off.

The wind is now forecast to be from the southwest at 20 km/h, if that holds it will give us a definite boost smile.gif

I should pack but I want to get on my bike one more time tonight, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as usual. I can't take my bike on the metro before 7 pm...

Diane to answer your questions:
kinda, yes, YES, not really, not telling, (basically yes)

I took the plunge and signed up for the After Burner (50K), I know, crazy, but hey they called me today and canceled it. So no After Burner, I guess the flame went out.

Anyone going to the Big O on Friday just to see what is going on?

I'll be at the Big O on Friday for the "dress rehearsal" of the opening ceremonies. Should be there around 5:00 until whenever they let me go.
Anyone dropping off their bikes?

Here is a quote from Accuweather.com. "Damaging storms will develop with a cold front across a large portion of the East Saturday. Areas from the mid-Mississippi Valley through Pennsylvania and New York will experience damaging wind gusts and hail as these storms propagate eastward. The storms will extend as far north as southern Ontario and Quebec."

At least it is the edge of the storm. So, we will all probably get a little wet.

I am still hoping that it will miss all of us.

1 day left ....

If there are any high gusts from the side I'm going to pull off the road and wait it out. It only takes 50 kph to blow me over!
At least the mess is compact and fast moving.

I still need to pick up a poncho...

Make sure your chain is well lubricated so it doesn't get damaged, and keep in mind that wet brakes are not very effective. Be sure to test your brakes often in the rain.

The forecast is rotten. If you have to look for something good to say about it, it's that the POP (probability of precipitation) is at 100% for Saturday, and it can't get any worse at all.

I'm not keen on riding in the rain, but I'll live with it. I'm rather less happy about riding in a thunderstorm. If we're in an area of flat fields, it could be risky and there's nowhere to shelter so many bikers. Whatever you do, don't go under a tree. Lightning tends to strike the highest thing around, and a tree is a good candidate. Quite aside from the fact that you are in danger of getting struck too, if you're under struck tree, trees struck by lightning have a tendency to explode because the sap boils and the steam can't escape quickly enough. I've seen the aftermath - the tree looked shattered.

Well I am trying to look at the bright side. "THEY" say (I would like to really know who "they" are) that it will start in the afternoon. So IF we ride 45K/hr+ we should get there before it starts. Think Positive!

I just looked at the radar, it looks like it might stay to the north of us.

Also, it's not supposed to start before 11 if it does hit, so the speedy critters will be 2/3 of the way to Trois-Rivières by then.

Sunday is predicted to be gorgeous, so no matter what happens tomorrow we'll keep on rolling.

Just a reminder - leave more space between riders if the pavement is wet.
I'll leave at least 3 bike lengths between me and the person in front.
If that makes a phreaking long peloton so be it, it beats a phreaking big pileup.
