Wow wow wow!!! Wasn't that alot of fun!??!! You know the video where they say anyone can do it!??! Well - I'm living proof!!! A total non-athlete who could barely go 5 km last year. With enough determination and some training - anything is possible!!! It was great seeing so many of you out there this weekend!! Special shout out to my riding partner Sophie (mermaid) and Desmond (how many times did we see each other over the last two days?!?!?!
Don't forget to RSVP for the dinner on Tuesday night! Everyone is invited with friends and family - but space is limited to about 80 people so please please please e-mail me and let me know you are coming (either here or at ddkphotos@yahoo.ca)
We've made several new friends while training for this ride - and I thought it might be nice to see each other after the ride to celebrate our accomplishment! Somehow I think I'll miss most people at the finish line - but wouldn't it be nice to have dinner back in Montreal on Tuesday the 14th at 6:00 p.m.? There is a place - on Van Horne just a few doors east of Victoria called the Fireside. (next to Plamondon metro - Van Horne exit) Very reasonably priced - steak, ribs, salmon, etc. - and they have a nice room downstairs where groups can gather... http://www.montrealfood.com/restos/fireside.html Anyhow - let me know if you're interested and I'll make a reservation. Bring friends and/or family and let's celebrate!! Diane
My boss has me doing overtime so I'm basically grounded
So I won't be there
I ended up on the sag wagon both times too.
Saturday I did 80k slow with my guide, she couldn't get past 20 km/h.
Then her knee gave out so she ended up on the bus.
Right after she was safely in the bus the heavens opened...
I made it almost to the next pit stop when I got too cold, my legs locked up and I was shivering so much that when I unclipped from my pedals I couldn't clip back in. So I was done for the day.
sunday I had to go solo because the guide was out of commission.
I made it all the way to the construction site on the bridge before the last pit stop, and couldn't safely ride through that mess due to my vision impairment. So that is where the fun ended for me.
Did anyone else spend the first half of Sunday's ride airborne, or am the only one light enough to catch 6 inches of air off non-stop bumps?

hi Sharkies! Sorry to hear that! Nope - I'm definitely not light enough to catch air! Although at some points when I was going 29 km/h I knew for sure that the wind was helping me tons! Sorry we won't be able to see you tomorrow night!!! Take care!
Sorry I won't be able to make it either. I would have liked to. I must say the ride was awesome. It's rather unfortunate about the monsoon Saturday. I'm sort of suspecting that it was my fault. I had made it to Trois-Rivieres and was figuring that I was likely to make it to camp dry, and that thought must have set it off. Unfortunately, it dampened the major opportunity to socialize on Saturday night.
Sharkies, did you see the 2 people who did the entire ride on rollerblades? They were maintaining 30 km/h and actually passed me at one point when I had slowed down to the mid-20s. No brakes either - you should have seen them struggle to slow down when they had to, but then again, I guess you know all about that.
All in all, it was wonderful, and I got a real kick out of the people gathered along the route to cheer us on.
