Hi Ya Folks; Well I've had a RTCC break and am thinking it's time to rev up the old fund raising engines again. Since we seem to live all over the city and beyond we probably wouldn't step on anyone toes if we shared some fund raising ideas with each other. I like the garage sale idea with a table for donations. I did ALOT of baking last year and will do more again. I would like to try asking for some corprate sponsers but do not have the contacts, any advice? On another note I see there are two events coming up one at the hospital the end of Sept and a training ride in Oct anyone going?
Hi Sharon! The only fundraising I used last year was e-mails... I may have to come up with something more creative this year - we'll see... We're planning on being at both events... How about you?
Stan here again. I guess it was inevitable - I registered to do it again in 2010. I really am not going to start asking for money (AGAIN!) until January, because I'm sure I will get a LOT of "But I just donated money for that". This way, I'll give them a break and be the first to get them working on their charitable tax deduction for the new year. On the other hand, I will let them know I registered, and if someone still wants to donate during this tax year, I'm all for it. I raised the vast majority of donations from customers, and I really can't afford to upset them by asking too soon.
I was thinking the same - just announce that Im back again this year and wait till later... however October is Breast Cancer awareness month - lost my sister to breast cancer - and I know of at least 5 women at my work who have had breast cancer-so a nice opportunity to kick-off with my fund raising and honor those ladies with a little bake sale - I make one mean lemon loaf. (made close to $500 last year just with those!) I think it was in the very first Orientation video for the first Weekend to End Breast Cancer-where they interviewed one woman who made all her money ($2000) by baking 100 pies throughout the year!! The trick I think-for those with limited resources, is to start early, and don't be afraid to be creative and get out of your comfort zone. Last year, when it was getting close to donation deadline-I was going to go set up in front of my local grocery store/SAQ with my bike on trainer, my Ride shirt, and get my uncle to collect money while I rode- hey-he made close to $200 for the Weekend the year prior- in less than 2 hours-just shaking a pink Dollar store garbage at customers outside of Loblaws, wearing his Weekend shirt! (Ok-something endearing about that image-heck-I'd give him money!..heh,heh)
I called tonight to ask for a participants letter and they are not ready yet. If I remember correctly they were out only in the spring last year. So if you all need one how about ya call and ask for one. If enough of us call early maybe we'll get them earlier then the spring.

Hi Folks, Well it took me longer to get moving this year, but I finally started training. I've gotten started with my fund raising so it's all good. Here we go again. FYI: The bike show is on at the Boniventure the weekend of Feb 19th. We went last year it was good and RTCC had a booth there
Yup- talked to Lily from the office yesterday - Im volunteering at the Ride booth at the Salon du Vélo! I'll be there Saturday, Feb. 20th - from 10am to 3pm.
If anyone else who did the Ride last year is interested in volunteering a couple of hours that weekend - give her a call - last I heard she was still looking for people - 1-866-996-8356.
I'm sorry I'm going to miss it! Coming in from San Diego - will try to drop in Sunday afternoon but can't really commit! I know you guys will do a great job representing though!!! Have fun!
Salon Velo was a lot of fun, spoke to many people about the ride, last year and this years. Talked with a few riders that are already doing the RTCC 2010. After all that Gear Talk, I can't wait to get out side.
For those interested in Getting some more training I will be giving a RTCC spinning class. Check out http://mo10.conquercancer.ca/site/PageServer?pagename=mo10_training_rides Max 12 per class - min 5.
Spring is definately here in Montreal but the South Shore paths are still not clear. I cycled from Brossard to NDG yesterday and there are still snow covered areas of the bycicle paths. Beware of the area around the Champlain bridge, there are still some 3 foot piles of snow. Other than that, the lachine canal path is almost clear of snow, I bet by the weekend (Mar 13-14), there will be no areas that need detours in Montreal. The Jacques Cartier bridge opened for cyclists last week and it has been cleaned, as of now the Victoria bridge path is not planned to be open until April.
