Training partner

Hello,

I'm looking for a training buddy close to my neighborhood (Ahuntsic). Speed is not my forté or my goal. Endurance is my primary strength. Slow but steady. A bit of a turtle, a good-natured turtle.

smile

Thanks!

n.

Hi there -
I live in Hochelaga and ride 3 to 4 times a week.  Went to Ile Notre Dame on Monday - that was fun.  I ride a hybrid and my average speed is between 20 and 25 kph.  I went out to Charlemagne on the weekend and went over to Lasalle and Lachine the weekend before that - but there were wayyyy too many people there.  I'm planning some rides from Chambly to Granby as well.  Could this interest you?  Let me know.
Patrice

Hi Patrice!
First, sorry for taking so long to reply. This week has been really hectic.

I also ride a hybrid with clips. My speed is probably about the same as yours. As for Lachine, yes, it's a nightmare. Gouin can get nutty, too. On weekends, I tend to get on the road really early to avoid the crowds. I'm a freelancer so rides during the week are a better bet.

The rides you propose sound great, however, I don't have a car. My bike is my only form of transport. That said, I've found some great rides on the island and north, Laval, Ile Bizarre. smile

The next two weeks will be very busy for contracts, but around May 1st things should quiet down and I should have time to ride. Also, the weather might be a little nicer.

If you're still game, let me know!

And thanks so much for writing.

Best,

Nancy

Hi Nancy -

Glad to hear from you - I'm a consultant too, but I tend to try to work regular hours (if I can) - I have a bike rack on the car that can take 2 cars if you'd be interested in trying the Chambly/Granby route sometime.  I look forward to doing some riding with someone.

cheers!
Patrice

Hi!
I also live in Hochelaga, and really need to discover new rides (my typical ride is head west along the canal/river... then turn around and come back) I really don't explore off-island at all... that needs to be changed! I might like to join you guys on weekend rides.

Anyways, I go about 20-25 km and am trying to build my endurance. I ride a touring bike, which is basically a hybrid with road handlebars. I might be able borrow a car on weekends, but no bike rack.

Let me know!

Hi Nora -
I'm glad to find someone else that lives close by.  I will be doing a ride on Saturday w/ Dez (he's a ride trainer) and others in Chateauguay.  Are you interested in coming? It's about 60km, starting at 11am. I could put your bike on my car.  Also, I'd like to do a ride on Sunday (unless the weather changes significantly) from chambly to Granby and back - I'm not sure how far that one is, it could be up to 80 or 90 km.  Depending on how tired I am from Saturday, I may cut that one a bit shorter, though.  The Chambly ride is on a bike path; I believe that the Saturday ride is on a road, but from what I understand, it's a typical bike circuit used by bikers.
Let me know!
cheers
Patrice

so nancy - you interested in any of these rides?

Hello Patrice and Nora,

Wow! this is great. Really encouraging.

This weekend is completely crazy already. But next weekend looks good. Keep me posted on plans and I will try to join you somehow.

Best,

n.

I read all the e-mails, very interesting, the chambly, granby have not done, but bike path St-Johns(st-Jean+_ to chambly cross river to richelieu held toward granby paved bike path then turn on highway I believe 375 or 275 to Ange Gardien to farnhamthis section 16 km back to bike path small packed gravel, fairly hard surface for about 30 km to (Iberville) cross river to st-Jean and back on bike path to Chambly. Total distance 100 to 110 km)
I did this 2 weeks ago on a wednesday. Only problem of course is when I turn to head west from Farnham it was into wind, great practice for building stamia.
Someone interested I not available this weekend, during week possible or the last weekend in April. thinking of trying to do 2 day 100km then a short 40 or 50 next day. sp far just thinking serious about the 2 day trip.
could arrange to meet in chambly, I would ride down or whatever!
Mike (st-Jean area)
450-358-5836
PS what ever distance I end up completing averaging about 22 km, so far on every trip (example the 100 km trip i finished with an average speed of 22km))

Sorry for not getting back to you last weekend Patrice!

Right now I'm doing rides in the 60km range... I don't want to push myself too hard too quick on distance, not sure I'm ready to brave a 100km day YET (but hopefully will be by the end of May)

If anyone wants to meet up this Sunday, or any other Sunday, for a 60-75km ride, email me!

Hey Nancy are you still looking for a training partner?
After several training rides with my team, I seriously need to find some slower people to bike with!
