Fundraising percentage for hospitals, charities and organizers

Hi,

I have been asked many times in the last 2 years, as how much money (%) actually goes to the hospitals, charities and research. As this percentage might scare us that so much money goes for ADMIN FEE and the hospitals, research are receiving not more than 30% what would scare us!!!

The event organizer should have a description of how much in percentage goes to each charity and how much percentage is charged for the admin fee since this is all about conquer cancer!!!

Does anybody have this info, or know where I or many others can get that??

Thank you,
Jorge Pinto

I've been asked the same question many times too. I 'm afraid the answer would be very disappointing.

Myself and my family were wondering the same thing, about the Ride as well as the Walk to End Women's Cancer (same organizers and Hospitals)
I found some info regarding the Toronto Walk and Rides that seem to indicate that 25% to 33% went to admin, organizing and advertising. Seems like a lot to me! I thought they had lots of sponsorship, plus the registration fees. $75 per person should right off the bat help cover a lot of it. I wonder if that is included in the revenues and expenses which makes it seem like the donations paid for it...

In the FAQs, it says:
How much money raised by The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer goes to the cause?
All donations go immediately to the l'Hôpital général juif. Proceeds from the event stay in our province and will deliver breakthrough research, screening programs, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at thel'Hôpital général juif.

Is this misleading? Do they mean money raised after expenses?
This should be made crystal clear!

Anyone?

i f i'm not mistaken it is a private organization which coordonates both the ride and the walk. this company is located in california. the first year that the walk was held in mtl, nearly 3 million was given to admin of a 9 million total. the receipients of the money justify this by saying that it still represents money they would never have received had it not been for these particular fund raising organizations..
don't forget that canadian charities represent 10% of the cdn g.d.p. there are only a few investigators for the thousands of charities all trying to get your dollars. the theoretical split is 80% cause, 20% admin but the majority of charities either don't respect this or through creative accounting manage to pay all their expences then give the 80/20 split. don't forget, lack of qualified inspectors and especially if questionable charities were closed it could place in peril the cdn economy. how do i know this? did my own research for my previous employer and had 1 charity closed before i retired. bottom line is the lesser of 2 evils.
