Welcome to the Montreal Ride to Conquer Cancer message boards. This is a place where you can share your fundraising and training tips, and give each other advice about how to prepare for the Ride.
So that we can all get to know each other, please reply here with your name and your reason why you have chosen to participate in The 2009 Ride to Conquer Cancer.
I rode in the inaugural Toronto to Niagara Falls Ride in 2008 and have signed up again for 2009. I was very excited today to find out that the Quebec Ride is in July. Originally the main Ride page had the date as the same date as the Ontario Ride.
The funding from the Ride supports a cause very close to my heart. I grew up in a small community south of Montreal and still have family living in Montreal and south of the city. My Dad and my oldest sister died from cancer; my oldest living sister is a Montreal resident and a breast cancer survivor. As in many families, numerous other relatives have also sucuumed to this disease. My hope is that with the help of the Ride and the Weekend to End Breast Cancer (I will participate in it for the 7th time in 2009), we will find a cure....or better yet a prevention...for this terrible disease.
And once the funds are raised, the Quebec Ride sounds like it will be an awesome event. When will I ever again get the opportunity to ride such a beautiful route, with so many amazing people, and get to support a cause like the fight against cancer at the same time?
I signed up today for the Quebec ride in July. This will be the first time I dedicate my time for such an amazing cause and I'm looking forward to journey.
I, too, pray they find a cure to this deadly disease. That day will soon come!!!!
Hi - thanks so much for starting up this forum. I think it will really help everyone in their training and fundraising and getting to know others working on this great cause! I went to an orientation session with my hubby and had planned on just volunteering. I'm most out of shape and have no idea if I'll be able to do this ride. But at least I'll get in shape getting ready for it - and I think it was the moment in the video where the guy said "I'm 44 and have never been more than 10 km in my life on a bike" where I thought - I'm 43 and have been 20 km that I thought it might be possible. As a survivor, and as someone who has lost so many loved ones to this disease - I've participated in the Terry Fox Walk and Relay for Life several times - and decided to take on this challenge. Wish me luck - I'm gonna need it!!
