best places to ride near Montreal

I'd love to hear where everyone is riding to train for this. Other than the obvious Lachine canal bike path (is it melted yet?) where else do you like to ride?

Try the bike path to Nun's Island, then the ice bridge to the seaway wall, then the seaway wall to St Catherines, turn around and come home. From CSL its about 40KM

I usually ride around Mount Royal. Since I ride in the evening, there's less traffic to deal with, and doing a few steep climbs really helps build stamina.

south shore is the kingdom for cycling, i cycle in the chateauguay, ormstown corridor and "car less" roads.
a new cycling club has recently formed if you want to experience riding with a group

I don't have my bike back from repairs yet, so I went out on my inlines.
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has the occasional puddle or gravel patch, but it's nice. Just stay up top on the bike path until all the snowbanks on the hill have melted. The hill should be ok in a week or so.

I live out in Ile Perrot so we ride on the lakeshore first east towards the city then the trip home west against the wind. Pretty ride lots of other cyclists and a narrow bike path most of the way.
Senneville is a nice ride too and you can always cross the west island and return on the lakeshore. Road is narrow and very cracked up, not as busy as lakeshore.
A tough route is around Ile Perrot it's only about 30km if you include Terrasse Vaudreuil, but the hard part is as you circle the island you're always against the wind.
If you want hills try a big square out in Hudson, Check google map and look for bellvue I follow my Best Buddy when we are out there so I don't know all the names of the streerts. Bellvue is a killer for me I hate hills, don't mind the wind tho.

I am also a south shore resident.

A resource I find helpful is the maps from a local cycling club. If you can't join the club at least you can look at the routes that are planned.

Go to http://www.increvables.com/ and take a look at their routes.

Happy Training

I live in St-Jean lots of bike paths head for the us border bike paths and highway with shoulder for bikes. Bike path to chambly then to St-Paul de abbottsford to Farnham and home to St-jean most of the ride is bike path, some paved some hard gravel. From Chambly you can connect to St-hubert Connect to bike path along riverside in St-lambert, etc Chambly to Granby and Granby to Bromont or continue to Waterloo. I believe bike path from Chambly to Granby and on to Warterlo is all paved all the way. If you go from Chambly to St-Jean to Farnham to Granby it is only paved from Granby on to Waterloo, parts from Chambly to St Jean are paved.
From The(pedestrian/bike bridge) Passerelle that crosses the 116 in St-Hubert to St-Jean would give you close to 75 to 80 km return in case someone is looking for a ride.

Hi Polar Bear,

Can you tell me how to connect from St-Hub towards st paul d'abbotsford?  Every time I end up in Chambly I tent to go to St-Jean.  What exact street connects out of town?

Thanks,

Rob

I had anwsered but not sure I gave you enough from the St-Hubert bike path. I am trying to remember i come up on Alexandria from bike path on Riverside in st-lambert and  connect to churchill turn left on second access to Churchill cross Victoria
AVE continue on Churchill, go up all the way till you cross Tashereau on the other side is BOUL Edward(St-Hubert) go all the way up Boul Edward at top you will see Tim Horton's bike path starts left side of house(condos). When you arrive in chambly you need to cross boul perigny direction toward the tim horton(street might be Lariviere) head till you connect with Bourgogne turn left connect to bike path. Follow till you cross the chamlby locks bridge. If you tun right after bridge you are on path path to Ile Ste-Marie then Ile Ste-Therese then path to st-jean.
At the locks bridge in Chambly if stay straight and follow the street or bike path which goes towards the FORT and follows the river, eventually you reach the car bridge which crosses to the town of Richelieu. You cross bridge take the right side of the highway 112 no t far along you will see signs for bike path which goes to Granby I believe this is paved and can continue to Waterloo if you want, goes further also. Or when you see the first actual big highway crossing the bike path # 235 highway
you can turn right follow highway has a 3 foot riding shoulder, to Ange-Gardien about 7 km Has a depaneur area, Tim horton,s you go under Higway 10 just before actually getting near Tim Horton,s area, then you continue on to Farnham, hear you need to look for bike path (it is fine gravel all the way to St-Jean) the bike path runs where the train tracks use to be. At the end of bike path is the town of Iberville part of St-Jean, follow path till you cross car bridge( take south side of bridge that way when you cross you can take the ramp to go down and under the bridge onto the bike path and then you head north all the way to Chambly. I hopes this helps someone.

If your free on Saturday I will do a short ride tomorrow and save the 100 plus for you on Saturday. We could meet  in Chambly and I will show you . You could head for grandy if you want or maybe I will turn to ST-paul d Abbottsford and on to farnham St jean. maybe meet in chambly could think about Chambly Granby Farnham St-Jean chambly WOW if i did that and then back to St-Jean might be 150 to 190 km. HA HA
All on bike path paved or fine gravel hard packed before the last snow fall. It sounds like a lot WOW if there was no wind could be interesting, if I did I would bring the tow truck number in case. HA HA
any interested in some kind of scenario call polar bear before the snow is all gone 450-358-5836

love your enthusiasm! and thanks for the reminder - two months is pretty short!!!! yikes!
last year I tried both days on weekends and would try to get out on Wednesday after work for 30 km or so... The trick is to keep adding to the distance - especially on the weekends. Once I did the 100 km for the first time though I kinda had a clue that I was going to make it! Have to say first time I did 30 I thought for sure I wouldn't!!! Don't give up! Keep plugging away!

Looking for anybody would like to make a little ride of 100km Saturday May 15, could meet in Chambly, would prefer St-Jean. Remember will will travel over paved and packed gravel bike paths, variety of ups and downs, not very much, but better the just a straight ride back and forth. See nature discover some small towns, etc. Will not pass over same path twice, will ride against wind in certain directions, this will improve your indurance. You can improve your technic of riding into wind for a possible 23 to 30 km maybe.
If this sounds good give me a call and we will try to set-up some kind of timing, depending on who and how many are in search of adventure. earlier morning is the best time to burn up the K's. My usually departure time from St-Jean 8:00, 9:00. Earlier we leave the earlier you are back home to REST from the adventure LOL. It takes possible max 6 hours total depending on number of rest stops and our average speed. I push it usually, but I am willing to take it easy to help other riders adapt to a long ride. We can leave early and take time to move along slower speed and i could help you develop some indurance. Any way give me a call nights 450-358-5836 between 5:00 & 9:00
