where is everyone? Apparently there are about 2,000 riders... and less than 100 here at the forum??? This could be a bustling great place to meet and connect with other riders... what's wrong with this picture?
Hey-I signed up for Le Tour La Nuit and Le Tour de L'ile-just for a little saddle time. Don't know about the rest of you parents out there but Im having a real hard time finding the TIME to go out for long runs..the weather hasn't helped much either I must say! Its gonna be ugly-and my so-called saddle will hurt I just know it...but having done the Weekend to End Breast Cancer for the past 4 years-Im all about the ugly-so bring it on!!
OH MAN! Don't get me started on the weather. I'm off fridays and here I am at 1:00 in the afternoon sitting and waiting for it to get a bit warmer and clearer before I go out. Time is a problem too,but I am able to combine my workout with driving to work so I get 42k under my belt everyday (weather permitting) but longer workouts ARE a time problem. My longest one day ride has been 72k but trying to get two days in a row of big rides is difficult, again weather is always the issue. I'm hoping I will be able to get two big days this weekend. WEATHER PERMITTING!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who thinks they can just jump on their bike & do that kind of distance will have one heck of a sore butt, not to mention leg cramps. I'm not particularly concerned because I've always been a long-distance rider, but I still have to build up the distances. So far I'm up to 100 km, but the weather hasn't been helping. By the time July 11 comes along, I hope to have built up to 240 km rides. That's about my maximum. Montreal to Cornwall, Ontario & back. It's a lovely ride. Very scenic, fairly flat, and mostly bike path. Another useful ride is to do the circumference of Montreal Island. It comes out to about 150 km, which is a similar distance to what we will face, and you have the advantage of not being too far from home. I follow bike paths, so it's not all along the water's edge, but a lot of it is.
I'm recovering from vaccine associated arthritis so I'm building distance slowly but surely.
I have inline nationals a week before the ride so I'm riding my bike as a recovery workout on my off days.
I'm ok as long as I don't need to climb a long steep hill.
On the flats I can just kind of pop it in cruise control and maintain 25 kph with minimal effort. I'll probably have to go slower than that or I'll lose my guide. I have an unfair advantage because my bike weighs very little and so do I...
