I've heard a few times (unofficially) that we'll probably be taking route 138... I've mapped it out just in case it's true (I can't imagine what other route they would take)...
first day - Olympic Stadium to 858 rue Laviolette - 132.14 km http://www.mapmyride.com/route/ca/qc/montreal/119124441593320999
2nd day - 858 rue Laviolette to 250 Wilfrid Hamel - 128.2 km http://www.mapmyride.com/route/ca/qc/trois%20rivieres%20and%20quebec/199124441681683922
Looks like the worse hills are going to be between km 50 and 110 on the 2nd day... Oh boy! I hate hills!
Anyhow - again - this is just guessing - haven't heard anything officially but
They told me too that it was the 138. That was at the orientation.
I called them last week and told them I heard tell of a big bad@ss hill just before Quebec and they kept saying no, it will be all flat, the route is not all finalized but they were going to "keep it as flat as possible".
That said, Quebec IS at a higher elevation than Montreal so one way or another we're going to have to get up there.
I think the climb actually looks worse on paper, it seems like the worst one goes up 50 meters per km.
I can't do the Map My Ride thing, so can you do me a huge favor and map out the following in Montreal: At-water from Notre Dame to Dr Penfield, and post it here on the board?
THAT is a bad@ss hill and I would like to see how it compares to the one by Pont Rouge.
Thanks
P.S. the profanity filter keeps destroying the street A****er, therefore the hyphen

I mapped the route too and came up with 264KM. I checked out the a****er hill and the hills in Q.C and still am not sure what it all means. Plus I mapped a killer hill in hudson and it looked bigger then the Q.C. hill.??????????? I'm sorry the hill are at the end of our ride and not the beginning. Groan.

Actually, I don't think I'll use the big chain ring at all, because I'll be the only athlete on the team...granny gears all the way and enjoy the scenery!
The granny gear is the smallest chainring you've got on the front.
It lets you use less force, but you need more rpm to reach the same speed.
It is useful in climbing hills, dealing with a strong headwind, or limiting your speed when you want your friends to have an easier time following you.
My son is in a soccer tournament this weekend in DDO, I would love to ride out in Hudson.
The club I joined rides 3 times per week (Mon, Wed, Sun) basically the same route as the Met Challenge, DDK you know about this. but less Kms on Mon and Wed, you are all welcome to come out for the ride, I am normally there on Wed, we start at 6pm.
I can't go anywhere that isn't accessible by metro, as I'm too blind to ride in downtown traffic. I guess I'm stuck on circuit gilles villeneuve with those lovely orange S turns...
