Finished my registration - including tent assignment and shuttle options. My hubby didn't even know he had a tent request from me - they don't send an e-mail or anything when you receive one - so make sure to get your tent-mate to log-in and accept the request. Also - looks like the shuttle is free? Is that free for everyone? Last I heard it was going to cost us a bundle. Glad to see that's not the case.
Have another question - they give you the option of no shuttle - but no option for no tent... I'm staying in a hotel room - so shouldn't I be able to tell them not to bother putting up a tent for me??
PS - is anyone looking for a hotel room. I have 4 that I'm going to be releasing soon and thought I'd ask people here first if they needed/wanted one... I have two at the Comfort Inn - 6255 rue Corbeil , Trois-Rivieres, QC, CA, G8Z 4P9 - It's 7 km away - you'll need a taxi to get there... I also have two at the Days Inn - 3155 Boulevard Saint Jean - again about 7 km away... Long story why I have two. Anyhow - let me know asap because I'm thinking I should release these soon... ddkphotos@yahoo.ca
Hi - I've tried booking hotels clsoer to the camp site and they are all booked. I'll take one of your rooms, I just have to confirm with my buddy first.
Non, non-leave your tent! - for those of us going solo-they'll automatically match us with complete strangers (or at least that is how it was for the Walk)-love you all like I've never met you in my life but I would prefer NOT sharing the already tight quarters when I get there..so if any empties are available-that will be ideal.
Yes I am interested in taking one of your rooms. If I cannot arrange transportation, I will use a taxi as you mentioned, possibly sharing it with whoever uses the other room. Will contact you via e-mail. Thank for the effort, glad someone is interested in providing required information.
Mike just e-mail me - Gil - I've e-mailed you back already. I'll not give up my tent yet - my hubby still hasn't decided but I'm pretty sure he's not going to rough it... Didn't think of any singles who might appreciate it... The Days Inn rate is $65 - the Comfort Inn is $126 (CAA rate)... Contact me at ddkphotos@yahoo.ca
My sister-in-law, and the three kids are following us the entire weekend and need a hotel in Trois-Rivières-she's called around and everything is full! If anyone has a spare room-can I PLEASE have it for them?! sophg@alcor.concordia.ca Merci!
Hmm. I think I'd like to be tent-mate to an absent person too. If you find out about anyone else leaving an empty spot in a tent, I'd like that. Just imagine getting paired with someone who snores like a chainsaw.
ha - the idea of sleeping in a tent with a loved one drives me up a wall. I'm not a princess but I'm really not into sleeping outdoors... I will keep my ears open for you!
Sleeping(?) in a tent with a loved one can be a LOT of fun. I've tried it. Also, the light shining through the tent tends to get you up bright & early. That's a real advantage for a night-owl like me, who otherwise has a hard time dragging his butt out of bed in the morning. If you're bothered by hard ground, an inexpensive air mattress would solve that easily. I admit I haven't slept in a tent for almost 30 years, but I'm game!

Bring an airmattress. Much more comfy than a sleeping bag.
You can get a decent one for $50 - $100.
Also, put some citronella on the door of your tent and if needed some bug repellent on you. Keep your tent door closed at all times between dusk and dawn except when entering/exiting.
Most people who hate camping feel that way don't take any measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes !
I think the camping will be fun. I am planning to bring a pillow, an air mattress, and earplugs. I read Brittany Websters blog about last year's event in Toronto. Here is an excerpt: " After a restless sleep in tent city, I awoke at 5 the next morning to the groans of sore cyclists planning their next day of riding in my opinion WAY too far in advance. I was hoping to get up at 6:30 and start riding at 7, but the decisions of about 600 plus early birds far overrode my beauty sleep. You see, the Girl Guides of Ontario astoundingly set up about 1000 identical tents in rows along the Mohawk Campus. When we got there, our luggage was loaded off the truck and our tent awaited us. It was amazing, but the only problem was that there was literally no more than 2 cm between each tent. One thing Ive learned is that tent zippers are impossible to sleep through, and if you think unzipping your tent more slowly makes it quieter, youre wrong, it just makes it last longer. Also, there are a lot of people that snore in this world. No matter, the extra time in the morning let me drink 3 cups of coffee- great for a wakeup call at the time, not so helpful on the ride though. "
