RE: TRAINING RIDES

Yes-thank you Dez & Serge - great to see everyone!
Came back home along the Gouin bike path-then Christophe-Colomb..took me almost 2hrs to get home!! There were so many people out there! The paths were packed with leisurely riders, families, dogs, strollers, pedestrians-then the street lights all along Christophe-Colomb - I swear at one point there must have been over 50 of us all lined up along the bike path...ugh..great practice for my clips-but man was I wiped when I got home! Next time Im sticking to the streets!

RE: TRAINING RIDES

yes
what would you like chambly to richelieu to marieville to rougemont, st-cesaire st-paul de abbottsford and granby, mostly is paved road(bike path) Chambly to granby 50km so 100km there and back

or Chambly, st-Jean, Farnham some paved 70% hard packed surface distance would be about the same. chambly st-jean about 20km and st-jean farnham23 to 25 area.

Round trip Chambly to Granby take bike path in Granby on Simmons street that is where the bike path from Chambly kind of stops and hooks up with the city of granby bike path. Cross along simmons to the southern direction or right when you arrive on Simmons, in a short distance you will connect with bike path to Farnham and onto St-Jean then to Chambly. WOW
I did it reverse direction today ended with the wind for the last 20km wow. Okay this run turn out to be only yes only 124KM round trip, it is easy to go from Chambly and not the reverse direction I found out today, mainly the wind factor. mike

Hi Mike -

I like the idea of doing a circuit, so that we don't come back on the same path we went out on - I'd also like to take advantage of what you learned about the wind today - so, we WOULDN'T do what you did today!

so, Chambly to Granby and back through Farnham and St Jean?  Is that right?

are we on?

sounds great.  I'm thinking that we should meet up at the Parc des Ateliers on the Canal.

Is there parking there, Mike?  It would be convenient as it's right on the bike path...

Yes if weather good what time do you want to meet in Chambly, the park you are talking about there is parking there but cost $4.00 If you go down road a little farther on the left you have Fort Chambly I think parking is free. Suggest we could meet in front of Fort Chambly (main Door for Fort) Left side near water. look like a tourist with bike I find you or you find me Red DEVECI Bike. Okay Whatever is easy i know area. We can Discuss once together for direction and distance could offer other choices depending on wind and distance wanted to travel. everyone welcome we could discuss on options for everyone.

dmjoleo Distance from St-Hubert 112 highway Pastrelle is about 20km to chambly
Great to have you. Like i said we could discuss and find a good distance and speed for group, it can be a learning experience instead of just a ride. would prefer only departure before day gets hot.

I'd like a 9:30 departure, if that works for everyone.  I'll be driving in from Montreal.

I count a bit less than 2hrs to get to Fort Chambly, departure at 7h30 for me is fine, meet you there at 9h30. We will be 2...may be 3.
We've done all the road in this area, a few times, la route des champs, la montérigienne, l'estriade.... Your road will be ours, as long as we are biking smile.gif
I will wear my 2009 yellow shirt, you won't miss me!

DEZ;So what up with your bike, repair or a new one.
Get this, I'm stiff and sore from NOT riding my bike this weekend. I still remember the horrors last year when we got caught in that massive storm. I won't ride in the rain if I don't have to. Althought last week I did ride to work in the rain.
And sure I'll ride to the historial site with you when you get your bike, make sure your milage is correct tho-but at this point in the training make it 100km. K!

Okay you guys - I WAS at Chambly and I DID ride, although ALONE!!!!!  I stayed on paved paths and went from Chambly to Longueuil - dropped off at some friends' house to dry off and recharge then back again.  Not super fun but I'm glad I did it - now I don't have to ride in the rain unless it rains during the ride.  I've done my bit!

missed you - yes, maybe next weekend.

On one of our training rides in OKA, I was hit by a car (he was doing 80ks/hr) I am doing not so bad now after 2 weeks, but everything else was scrap, clothes, bike, everything. So I am still waiting for the insurance to "GET OFF TH POT"!!!

Updates to follow, hopefully this week.

That's why we called it: FULL CONTACT CYCLING

But still doing about 250k per week on my Hybred, but not the same...

sorry ptardif
Saw it raining and I know do not ride in rain unless you have too.
Proud of you for the ride you did do alone!! Great spirit!
Check out for next weekend
I plan a short maybe 100KM during the week and then probably something for the weekend. hope we meet up gang. Remember Patrice if it is raining I do not go, if I ride and then it rains I had no choice so I continue to ride. Have had some bad experiences of riding in the rain shakes, back spasms, etc. So avoid if possible.
Sorry Dez I hope you recover from accident. It sems we need you for the ride on July 10-11, Spirit, team effort One for all and all for one! We leave as a team on July 10 the ride for cancer team! We all can complete the ride as the ride for cancer team!

Oh my god, Dez. That is not at all what I expected to hear.  Poor you.  I'm so sorry. I hope the insurance comes in soon but mostly, I'd like that jerk who hit you to get what's coming to him!

I'm just back from Amsterdam (did my training over there for a week).  The attitude between motorists and cyclists and pedestrians in Holland is so completely different. On the road, cyclists are king, and any accident between a cyclist and a motorist does not bode well for the motorist.  We need some of that over here.

I hope you're healing well. You are quite courageous and an inspiration.  Looking forward to seeing you in July, if not sooner.

Patrice

Hi Mike -

I understand about riding in the rain - I actually have a bad allergy that acts up in the cold/rain but I'd taken extra medication this morning and it went quite well.

I hope we get to do a ride next weekend.

cheers!

and Johanne - you were right, paved all the way - so much better than the muddy stuff I went through yesterday.

Today we did le Tour de l'Ile in POURING, FREEZING rain from start to finish...51km of it.
Every time we stopped we would start to shiver-so we skipped out on pit stops at the end and just kept riding.Nothing you wear will keep you dry or warm in those situations and nothing will make you feel better until you finish!
However kind of cool - they took us through the quarries in the East, and then up this muddy, slippery winding road. Some people went up slowly with their bikes, and others simply got off and walked up-either way, everyone came out smiling, giggling and completely filthy from all the mud flying! So that's it-Happy to report I've given at the bank in regards to riding in the rain & cold - Im ready for some major sun action now!

Dez- glad to hear you're back!

hey Dez - good to hear from you - you say hybrid like it's a dirty word - watch out - you know me and Sophie are still riding them!!
I'm sure it was the good company that kept us smiling today. That plus the fact that it was so ridiculous that we were all out there. I have to thank all the volunteers who stood in the miserable rain and kept cheering us on - that was so motivational!
Yesterday was awesome - we skipped Serge's ride and Sophie and I did 85 (me) or 90 (Sophie) here on the island - figured we'd stay close to home in case it rained too hard we'd call it quits... well other than getting spit on once or twice - nothing!! Rode out from my place near Decarie/Cote Ste. Catherine to the eastern tip and back - it was great....
Garry and Richie slept in and decided to head out in the afternoon - it started pouring right when they wanted to leave - so they waited - then went - and got poured on in the last 10 minutes...

So today - we're committed - money is paid for the tour de l'ile - so what the heck - let's just do it - it can't rain the whole time - can it?? YES IT SURE CAN!!! Actually after the ride last year and the last two hours in the rain - plus all the times we got rained on in training - rain and wet doesn't bother me... COLD rain and wet - well that's a different story!! but we made it through - and hopefully we've paid our dues to the rain people and can move on with perfect 21 degree weather with slight overcast (no sun for me the melanoma survivor!) and no chance of rain!!

thanks again Sophie for your support and encouragement!!! you da woMAN!!

oh yeah - we want MORE MUD!!!!!!!!! that was so ridiculous I'm still laughing!!

Me too, going out today with my best buddy.  We are riding the Soulonge Canel again.  If we ride from  my house all the way to the end and return on the same route its about 70. Once  I have two big days of riding is under my belt I'll feel better about the QC ride.

Mermaid how are you today.  AND  FYI: I have Proletta's bike and will keep in touch with her for it's delivery when she's ready.

Safe riding to all. Counting today  27 days to go.
Folks next weekend is Fathers day, But I'll be free Sunday if anyone is planning a ride.

Went out with Garry, Sophie and Dan today for another 67 to the eastern tip of the island and back. Was warm out - but a good UNEVENTFUL ride - with plenty of pit stops to refill and empty... 5.5 hours - yikes - ok maybe a few too many pitstops... but actually it was quite enjoyable!!! So that 181 for this weekend... longest yet... I can't really ride during the week so there's way less than 27 left for me!! hope everyone stays safe!!! PS Sophie was in good spirits and had a good ride today... Although she did want to hit me when I insisted she needed more sunscreen on her boo-boos!

If anyone is interested could meet in Chambly Sat or Sunday next week. Could do chambly granby 100km, I run part on packed gravel, mainly hard surface I have 728 hybride tires runs easy. If someone wants to be daring could take you on 100km of 124 km that would be anybody leaving from Chambly, if I ride all it would give me 144 or 148 about. But again it is probably have on hard packed surface, a small amount packed gravel and yes some if paved.
Anyway let me know we have to check the weather for the weekend this week it changed alot by the time we reached Sunday.

Hope you are having a good weekend. Will be doing a ride w/ the DDO crew tomorrow.

not doing the velo quebec ride - not in the mood to pay over $120 for the 3 of us to ride in cold rain...
we'll wake up and play it by ear - if it's not pouring then we'll ride in the neighbourhood so we're never more than 30 minutes away in case it gets really miserable...
I tell you - mother nature is not cooperating with us much for our training rides! so I'm hoping she shows up with perfect overcast 20 degree weather with no sun or rain for the ride!
